World Heart Day
Today is World Heart Day. World Heart Day began back in 2000 to inform people everywhere that heart disease and stroke are the leading killers of individuals, claiming 17.3 million lives a year. It takes place September 29th of every year. Risk factors for heart disease and stroke include raised blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, overweight, obesity and physical inactivity. Several cities within the Chicagoland area are participating in walks to encourage healthy lifestyle choices and to raise money for heart awareness. Take some time today to make sure you and those around you do something healthy for their heart today.
